As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Maternity Risk Staff Nurse will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and quality of care provided to patients. This position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and supporting the senior management team.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain the Maternity Risk register, providing essential support to senior management.
  • Understand the escalation process for incidents, both internal and external, and manage these effectively in the absence of the Maternity Risk and Governance Manager.
  • Identify and promote areas of excellence in learning, contributing to the dissemination of best practices across the organization.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Registered Midwife with current NMC Registration.
  • Postgraduate level education.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Training in risk management.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Proficient in report writing and presentation development.
  • Ability to identify and communicate actions, learnings, and recommendations to enhance patient safety.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in delivering effective presentations.
  • Training in PSIRF.

Technical Skills Competencies

Essential Criteria

  • Advanced keyboard and computer skills, with a focus on accuracy.
  • Frequent use of display screen equipment is required.

Desirable Criteria

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to act as a change agent.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.

Knowledge

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance and risk management, along with its implications for service delivery.

Desirable Criteria

  • Familiarity with the Ockenden Report, MBRRACE, PMRT, CQC, SBLs, MIS, and NICE guidance.
  • Knowledge of clinical quality and safety strategies and their implementation.
  • Ability to think creatively and seek practical solutions to challenges.
