Position Overview

Aelfgar Surgery is in search of a dedicated and proactive Community Paramedic to join our dynamic healthcare team. This role is essential in providing high-quality medical services to our patient population, which encompasses approximately 19,000 individuals. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with our healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care, particularly focusing on minor health issues.

Key Responsibilities

The Community Paramedic will be responsible for:

  • Assessing and treating patients who present with minor health concerns.
  • Providing guidance and support to individuals regarding their ongoing medical and nursing requirements.
  • Managing urgent or emergency cases as necessary, ensuring appropriate prioritization and triage of patient needs.
  • Making referrals for further investigations when required, and acting on the outcomes of those investigations.

Role Expectations

The Community Paramedic will operate independently within their professional scope, utilizing advanced clinical assessment and treatment skills to serve as the first point of contact for patients with undiagnosed conditions. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting thorough patient assessments, including history taking and clinical evaluations.
  • Diagnosing and managing both acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Demonstrating sound clinical judgment and decision-making in complex situations.
  • Collaborating with general practice teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree or Diploma in Paramedicine or equivalent experience.
  • Full UK driving license and access to personal transportation.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Desirable:

  • Progress towards Level 7 capabilities in paramedic practice.
  • Qualification in Independent Non-Medical Prescribing.

Experience

Essential:

  • Completion of a two-year consolidation period as a newly qualified paramedic.
  • Three years of experience as a Band 6 or equivalent paramedic.
  • Demonstrated enhanced clinical assessment skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and prioritize effectively.
