Position Overview

As a Senior Evidence Reviewer, your primary responsibility will be to facilitate the application of evidence in public health recommendations and directives. You will engage in swift evidence evaluations utilizing systematic and rapid review techniques, which include the examination of studies, data extraction, critical assessment, and synthesis of evidence.

Collaboration will be key as you work within a review team, employing tools such as Endnote, Rayaan, and Microsoft Teams, across various review subjects with timelines ranging from a few days to several weeks. Additionally, you will contribute to methodological advancements and the translation of evidence, which may involve crafting tailored evidence messages, producing concise evidence summaries, and developing critical appraisal instruments.

Your role will involve matrix-style collaboration with colleagues dedicated to providing guidance and advice at both national and local levels, and you may also engage with external stakeholders. Furthermore, you will assist others in producing or commissioning evidence reviews and may play a role in delivering training and capacity-building initiatives.

Your core responsibility will be to enhance the utilization of evidence within public health guidance and recommendations by functioning as a vital member of an evidence synthesis and knowledge mobilization team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with guidance colleagues to formulate clear review questions and develop review protocols.
  • Utilize suitable tools to conduct rapid evidence reviews, including crafting search strategies, screening literature, performing quality assessments, synthesizing literature, and documenting findings.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate documentation, ensuring the security and accuracy of all data related to projects you manage or participate in.
  • Oversee the quality of work produced by team members and colleagues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of rapid evidence review practices and other professional standards, including training initiatives and working groups.
  • Make informed decisions regarding the evidence team's work and actively participate in collaborative decision-making concerning methodologies and outputs.
  • Assist in the commissioning of systematic or rapid evidence reviews by developing review specifications and overseeing commissioned projects.
  • Support the creation and implementation of capacity-building efforts for evidence synthesis and application.
  • Prepare presentations for local, regional, or national meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Provide line management and supervision for team members at HEO or EO levels.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Possession of a first degree or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in presenting and interpreting public health evidence in an accessible manner.
  • Post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in public health or a related field.
  • Familiarity with review methodologies, including systematic and rapid reviews.
  • Experience conducting systematic or rapid evidence reviews in public health or a relevant domain.
  • Experience in critical appraisal or risk of bias assessments.
  • Proficiency in report writing.
