Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients, including day-to-day bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and ledger management.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Process and manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly.
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Monitor and manage cash flow for clients, providing regular reports and insights to support their financial decision-making.
Client Relationship Management:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for allocated clients, addressing their bookkeeping queries and providing financial insights as needed.
  • Conduct regular reviews of client accounts, ensuring accuracy and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Support the Practice Manager in onboarding new clients, ensuring a smooth transition and setup of financial systems.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior bookkeepers, helping them develop their skills and improve their performance.
  • Review the work of junior staff, providing constructive feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Assist in training and developing the bookkeeping team, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that all bookkeeping practices comply with relevant legal requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits of client accounts, ensuring accuracy and identifying any discrepancies or areas for improvement.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in accounting regulations and best practices, ensuring the team is aware of any updates or changes.
Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare detailed financial reports and statements for clients, providing clear analysis and insights into their financial performance.
  • Assist clients with budgeting and forecasting, helping them to plan and manage their finances effectively.
Technology and Systems Management:
  • Utilise bookkeeping software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) to manage client accounts efficiently.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes through the use of technology, ensuring the team is aware of any updates or changes.
  • Assist in the implementation of new software and tools within the bookkeeping team, ensuring a smooth transition and setup of financial systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • A relevant bookkeeping or accounting qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA).
  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, in a multi-client managing role.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping practices, including VAT, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in bookkeeping software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
