Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity for a Band 6 Associate Breast Care Nurse to join our dedicated team. This role is part-time, requiring a commitment of 15 hours per week.

In collaboration with the Breast Care nursing team, the Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS) will be responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of a comprehensive specialist service. This service is designed to ensure that patients receive exemplary clinical care throughout their journey, from pre-diagnosis to treatment, follow-up, and survivorship. The ACNS will also extend care to patients participating in the NHS breast screening program and those diagnosed with metastatic disease. Our mission is to enhance patient outcomes by delivering specialized information and support to patients and their families, ensuring timely psychosocial and physical assessments, and providing expert clinical interventions. The ACNS will prioritize patient safety and well-being, consistently upholding dignity through patient-first principles.

Key Responsibilities

- Engage in meaningful conversations with patients and caregivers, addressing their learning needs and mental capacity through advanced communication techniques.

- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care during complex patient pathways.

- Clarify the roles and responsibilities of key workers to patients.

- Participate in sessions focused on delivering difficult news to patients.

- Adhere to established pathways, providing both written and verbal information, while facilitating referrals to other professionals and agencies, ensuring effective communication with relevant stakeholders.

- Innovate and implement new strategies in partnership with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to enhance the care of cancer patients in both hospital and community settings.

- Support and mentor nursing and allied health professionals in general ward areas, particularly in addressing complex and sensitive issues related to breast cancer care.
