Position Overview

We are seeking a Head of Human Rights and Sustainability to lead our team in the EMEA region. This pivotal role involves overseeing our Human Rights and Sustainability initiatives, providing expert guidance to our clients. The successful candidate will leverage their knowledge in sustainability and human rights to deliver consultancy services, including training, capacity-building, gap analyses, human rights assessments, and employment practices evaluations. Additionally, this position entails managing and nurturing a team of consultants within the region.

This role necessitates a presence in our offices, with a commitment to hybrid and flexible working arrangements. A readiness to travel and a strong inclination towards collaborative work and effective communication with colleagues across various departments is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Expertise Demonstration

  • Exhibit deep knowledge and stay updated on global trends and best practices in human rights and sustainability. Provide internal and client updates on significant developments.
  • Act as a representative of the organization to external stakeholders by presenting at industry conferences and authoring publications and online articles on pertinent topics.

Client Engagement Management

  • Independently prepare proposals and client reports for consulting projects, ensuring high-quality standards.
  • Lead or oversee the execution of client projects focused on human rights and sustainability across diverse sectors and regions, collaborating closely with local experts.
  • Work in conjunction with colleagues from other departments to integrate human rights and sustainability advice into client projects.

Business Development

  • Identify and cultivate new client relationships through proactive business development efforts; establish strong partnerships with clients through exceptional project delivery.
  • Contribute to global and regional business development initiatives as part of the organization’s Global Risk Analysis team.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Manage and develop a team of specialists in human rights and sustainability based in our offices.
  • Set clear and consistent objectives for team members of varying seniority levels. Promote an inclusive and collaborative environment among team members.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Extensive experience advising businesses on sustainability and human rights issues, including modern slavery and labor conditions.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality advice and reports in either an in-house or consulting capacity.
  • Familiarity with UN Guiding Principles and ILO conventions, along with a solid understanding of labor rights issues and a passion for the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Capability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working across various sectors and regions.
  • Willingness to travel for short assignments within the EMEA region.

Desirable

  • Experience in developing human rights policies and implementation strategies; conducting human rights due diligence; and performing labor audits.
  • Proven experience in business development, project management, and maintaining client relationships.
  • Experience in managing small teams or individuals.
  • Fluency in languages spoken in the EMEA region.
