Position Overview

The Accounting Insight Advisory (AIA) team is tasked with the preparation of financial statements for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). A comprehensive understanding of FRS 102 and FRS 105 is crucial, as the majority of work involves year-end statutory accounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of statutory financial statements (primarily under FRS 102 and FRS 105) and management reports for various clients.
  • Providing assistance to clients with everyday accounting inquiries and challenges.
  • Potential secondments to deliver finance function support to clients.
  • Ensuring that assignments are completed to the highest standards, within the agreed internal budget, and discussing all significant matters with the manager/partner and client.
  • Planning assignments in line with the firm's standard procedures and confirming arrangements with clients, including anticipated costs and billing arrangements.
  • Taking a hands-on supervisory role on assignments as necessary.
  • Training clients on their accounting systems.
  • Addressing client queries promptly and effectively, maintaining a client-focused approach.
  • Briefing junior staff on client business and pre-assignment instructions, supervising and controlling work completion, and providing on-the-job training and feedback as needed.
  • Implementing the firm's review and completion procedures to ensure timely delivery of final accounts, management letters, and adjustments to opening balances.
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with clients throughout the year and practicing excellent client service principles.
  • Ensuring appropriate collaboration with other departments, mainly audit and tax, to identify and meet all potential client needs.
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of the firm's specialized services, actively seeking cross-selling opportunities, and undertaking special projects in response to client needs when appropriate.
  • Maintaining an advanced level of technical knowledge through relevant reading and training, fulfilling any development or training requirements.
  • Supporting the training and development of staff within the AIA department.
  • Participating in other administrative departmental and office matters as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong understanding of UK financial reporting standards (FRS 102 and FRS 105).
  • Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage and Xero is advantageous.
  • Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness and add value.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to engage with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficient accounts production skills; prior experience with CCH Accounts Production is desirable but not essential.
  • Newly qualified ACA or ACCA.
