About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Hydromechanical Design capability team at Stirling Dynamics. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing innovative technical solutions for various sectors, including aerospace, marine, flight simulator, and Urban Air Mobility.

The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary project team, comprising Systems, Stress, Electronics, Performance, and Simulation engineers, to deliver projects that meet technical requirements, timescales, and budget. You will be involved in all aspects of the product design life cycle, from concept generation to implementation, product improvement, and in-service product support.

This role is based in our Bristol office, but we offer flexible working arrangements, allowing you to work remotely for part of the time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for design and development projects
  • Develop robust conceptual and detailed designs to meet project requirements
  • Prepare design support documentation, conduct design calculations, and maintain engineering records
  • Produce drawing packs in line with configuration management processes
  • Design and produce mechanical designs and drawings
  • Develop design specifications and interface specifications based on project requirements
  • Check and approve technical reports and drawings
  • Conduct engineering investigations for existing product improvements
  • Conduct research and gather data for trade studies
  • Compile engineering memos and technical reports
  • Manage engineering change management activities on existing designs
  • Attend meetings and workshops
  • Collaborate with staff to develop professional values and build strong relationships
  • Ensure adherence to best practice technical standards, including those issued via our Quality Management System, classifications, and statutory bodies
Requirements

You will need a degree (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering. Additionally, you should have knowledge of composite structures and manufacturing methods, proven technical leadership, and proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM Pro. Familiarity with design and data configuration control, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision and within a multi-disciplinary team, is also essential.
