Position Overview:

The Telecoms Engineer will report directly to the Senior Project Manager and will be a key member of the Distribution Capital Delivery team within the South East region. This role is a permanent position.

Compensation:

The successful candidate will receive an annual salary of £51,245 along with a performance-related bonus.

Role Responsibilities:

The primary focus of this position is to assist in the execution of Operational Telecoms SCADA projects, including troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

Key Objectives:

Engage in the daily oversight of Operational Telecoms infrastructure, ensuring that all SCADA projects are developed and constructed in accordance with UK Power Networks specifications. This includes supporting the testing and commissioning of technologies and contributing to the evolution of SCADA operational methodologies.

Scope of Work:

  • The Telecoms Engineer will be accountable to the Senior Project Manager for the design, management, and repair of SCADA equipment, collaborating with a team of technical experts.
  • While there is no direct budget responsibility, the Engineer will manage SCADA-related costs to ensure adherence to project standards and timelines.
  • Meet agreed service level agreements and key performance indicators related to SCADA operations.
  • Oversee Network Operations, Asset Management, Capital Programmes, Connections, and the design and construction of SCADA infrastructure.
  • Ensure that SCADA designs accommodate both legacy and future technologies, while also proposing enhancements to improve network reliability.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high safety management standards and ensure compliance with safety protocols among staff.
  • Contribute to the annual Operational Telecoms work programme, addressing complex technical challenges.
  • Investigate technical incidents, providing recommendations to mitigate future risks.
  • Lead the application of innovative design solutions in the Operational Telecoms sector.
  • Engage with primary suppliers regarding new product development and fault resolution.
  • Adhere to UK Power Networks' disciplinary policies and code of conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement and contract management procedures.
  • Plan and implement technical projects in collaboration with other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA networks, including familiarity with high voltage switchgear and substation equipment.
  • Ability to interpret schematic and wiring diagrams for construction or repair tasks.
  • Experience in training others on RTU testing and commissioning protocols.
  • Capability to recognize limitations and seek external advice when necessary.
  • Possession of a competency certificate under UK Power Networks safety regulations.
  • Minimum competency as an Authorised Person for underground and overhead 11kV systems.
  • Experience with high voltage and low voltage networks and their tele-control systems.
  • Minimum academic qualification of ONC or equivalent is preferred.
