Public Health Intelligence Data Scientist

We are seeking a skilled Data Scientist to join our Public Health Intelligence Team, which is part of the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) at Gateshead Council. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of Public Health Intelligence and the use of research evidence to tackle health inequalities across Gateshead.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage the Council's Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA 2025)
  • Take ownership of exploratory data science, seeking out opportunities for impactful research across the Council's data estate
  • Guide and support Council colleagues in quantitative research, statistical analysis, and the generation of evidence to support the Council's strategic objectives
  • Interpret and present complex and/or sensitive information clearly in a variety of forms for a range of professional and lay audiences
Requirements
  • Relevant data, computer science, mathematics, or equivalent qualification at post-graduate level
  • Good knowledge of relevant statistical methods and systems, such as R, SPSS, PowerBi, SQL, and ETL processes
