Orthoptic Service/Ophthalmology

Position: Senior Visual Field Technician / Team Lead

Employment Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week

A full-time permanent vacancy has emerged for a Senior Visual Field Technician / Team Lead. The selected candidate will oversee the daily operations of a visual fields team comprising 8 field technicians and orthoptic assistants, reporting directly to the Deputy Lead Orthoptist.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct visual field assessments utilizing a range of specialized equipment, primarily serving adult glaucoma and neuro-ophthalmology services.
  • Participate in the Orthoptic-led pre-school vision screening program.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess an educational background equivalent to SCQF level 7, such as SVQ Level 3 training in healthcare or a comparable qualification.

Previous experience in the field of Ophthalmology is essential, demonstrating a comprehensive portfolio of specialized competencies, including:

  • Static and kinetic (neurological) visual field testing
  • Visual acuity assessments for both adults and children
  • i-care applanation tonometry
  • Focimetry

Strong hand-eye coordination and meticulous attention to detail are crucial for this role. Candidates should exhibit excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals. Proven teamwork capabilities and the ability to work independently are also required. Problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills are essential attributes.

Upon commencement, the successful applicant will be enrolled in Professional Development Leadership training, covering topics such as Recruitment, TURAS appraisal, Health and Safety, and relevant staff management courses within the first six months.

Additional Information:

This position necessitates membership in the PVG Scheme. If the candidate is not currently a PVG member for the required regulatory group, an application to Disclosure Scotland will be required and must be approved before starting the role.
