Lead Financial Advisor

Slough Borough Council is seeking a seasoned financial leader to drive strategic growth and excellence in our Finance and Commercial Services team. As the Head of Audit, Risk & Insurance, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of our organisation and ensuring world-class financial governance, risk, internal audit, and insurance services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership to our internal audit, risk management, and insurance teams, driving continuous improvement and excellence.
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Finance to develop and implement service objectives that drive business outcomes.
  • Oversee the delivery of the annual audit plan, risk management strategy, and insurance portfolio, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and professional excellence within your team, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Represent the council at the highest levels, influencing key decisions and providing expert financial advice and guidance to stakeholders.
  • Champion the integration of financial services across the organisation, promoting efficiency, value for money, and better resident outcomes.
  • Lead change management initiatives and transform the finance function into a truly innovative, data-driven service, driving business growth and excellence.
Requirements:
  • Qualified accountant or equivalent, with extensive experience working in a complex public or private sector environment.
  • Proven track record of leading enterprise risk management and service transformation initiatives, driving business outcomes and excellence.
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive business growth.
  • Substantial experience of working in a politically sensitive environment and collaborating with elected members, promoting a culture of transparency and accountability.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach, driving business excellence and growth.
