With over 150 years of expertise, a workforce exceeding 28,000, and operations in 52 countries with more than 100 manufacturing facilities worldwide, we are committed to delivering innovative energy and information solutions across the globe.

Our extensive range of services and industry knowledge allows us to manufacture thousands of miles of underground and submarine cables annually, catering to power transmission and distribution, as well as medium and low voltage cables for construction and infrastructure projects. Additionally, we produce a comprehensive selection of optical fibers, copper cables, and connectivity systems for voice, video, and data transmission in the telecommunications sector.

Position Overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Telecom Installation Engineer to join our dedicated Telecom Engineering team. This role is based in Eastleigh and involves the design and development of optical fiber products, including cables and blown fiber units, for a diverse range of clients both in the UK and internationally. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct testing on designs to ensure compliance with customer specifications and international standards.

We are looking for an individual who is eager to learn, proactive, and focused on driving continuous improvement. This position may be ideal for a Field Engineer with experience in fiber optics from a telecommunications background who is seeking a site-based role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the on-site testing facility, including the preparation and execution of cable installation tests.
  • Develop and deliver telecom cable test qualification programs in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with production teams to obtain necessary cable samples for testing.
  • Prepare comprehensive test reports for all conducted tests and maintain the test report database, ensuring that copies of test packages are available to support design engineering and commercial needs.
  • Innovate new testing methods to meet customer requirements in collaboration with the design engineering team, while also providing application support to clients.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Engineering Manager regarding ongoing tasks and projects, along with formal presentations upon project completion.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience with installation techniques for fiber cables and units, including both underground and aerial applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in work.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, resilience, and creative thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with product knowledge related to materials and cable manufacturing processes is advantageous, though training will be provided.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to make independent decisions while working away from the factory.

A valid driving license is required, and occasional travel within the UK and internationally may be necessary.

  • Defined Contribution pension scheme with generous life assurance.
  • Annual enrollment in the Yes Share Scheme.
  • Health Care Cash Plan for reimbursement of optical, dental, and chiropody expenses.
  • Access to a 24/7 confidential employee counseling service.
  • Online language learning resources.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity leave and pay.
  • Generous sick pay provisions.
  • Discounts on mobile services and major retailers.
  • Cycle to work scheme and free onsite parking.
  • Transition to Retirement Policy and Vitality scheme.
  • Complimentary flu vaccinations.
