Position Overview
Cockfosters Medical Centre is seeking a dedicated and innovative General Practitioner to join our committed and welcoming team. We are looking for a professional who is eager to contribute to our expanding patient base.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Addressing medical concerns presented by patients, which includes taking medical histories, conducting examinations, performing investigations, diagnosing conditions, providing treatment, and making referrals when necessary.
- Conducting patient consultations in person, over the phone, or through virtual platforms.
- Prescribing medications as required.
- Participating in shared on-call responsibilities according to a predetermined schedule.
- Performing home visits when clinically necessary.
- Assisting the practice in achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) and other local enhanced service objectives.
- Completing medical documentation and reports.

Our medical centre serves a diverse patient population and is supported by a proficient team of administrative and nursing staff, including a practice nurse, a physician associate, and clinical pharmacists. We pride ourselves on our high performance in clinical and quality metrics.

- Collaborative work with the Primary Care Network (PCN).
Job Duties
- The post-holder will be expected to manage a variety of tasks, including patient consultations, handling telephone inquiries, visiting patients at home, processing repeat prescriptions, and addressing administrative queries efficiently.
- Making independent, professional decisions regarding patient care, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare professionals.
- Evaluating the healthcare needs of patients with undiagnosed conditions.
- Screening patients for potential health risks and early signs of illness.
- Collaborating with patients to develop health management plans in accordance with practice protocols.
- Providing health education and counseling.
- Managing patient admissions and discharges, and referring to other healthcare providers as necessary.
- Maintaining accurate and timely consultation records.
- Collecting data for quality audits and ensuring accurate coding for QOF and other targets.
- Issuing computer-generated prescriptions to minimize handwritten documentation.
- Prescribing in line with the practice's formulary when clinically appropriate.
- Undertaking all standard responsibilities associated with a General Practitioner in a primary care setting.
- The post-holder will receive dedicated time for QOF and other management tasks, with progress monitored and discussed with practice partners.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- MRCGP qualification and inclusion on the Performers list.
- Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Training in general practice.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience in a GP practice is preferred.
