Job Title: Research Cloud Services Lead Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Cloud Services Lead Engineer to join our team at King's Service Centre. As a key member of our IT department, you will play a pivotal role in supporting and leading the day-to-day running and development of our Research cloud-based services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, deployment, maintenance, and support of Azure-based research services within a Service Management framework and in line with the agreed university standards and Service Levels.
- Develop and implement Azure DevOps best practices.
- Identify, design, and build CI/CD pipelines to improve the efficiency of software delivery for Research-based services.
- Provide subject matter expert (SME) guidance, technological change, training, and support on Microsoft Cloud technologies, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Lead and comply with the security, resilience, backup, and monitoring standards/policies.
- Represent Research Cloud Services in Change Advisory Board meetings, daily and weekly Service Review meetings.
- Identify and undertake Service Improvements.
- Work closely with other teams within IT to provide an excellent IT Service.
- Deliver Research Cloud services in line with the agreed service levels.
- Ensure all Research Cloud services are maintained to the correct architectural and technical best practice specifications.
- Be a stakeholder in determining whether a new release, affecting a service in production, is ready for promotion.
- Contribute to the delivery of updates or solutions to the Research Cloud Services environment.
- Possess a detailed understanding of all King's College London's Research Cloud services and the associated platforms/infrastructure.
Requirements:
- Experience of designing, deploying, and maintaining Azure-based services, ideally via Azure DevOps.
- Experience of supporting, maintaining, and developing Windows & Linux OS environments & applications within Azure.
- Experience of managing SQL (Azure DB, Managed SQL, MS SQL & MySQL) databases.
- Experience of designing and building solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Experience of supporting 3rd party applications and maintaining appropriate lifecycle management.
- Experience of working with ITIL-based Service processes and functions, including Service Desk and Service Process Managers.
- Experience of working with enterprise-scale applications, infrastructure, and software.
- Knowledge of IT Security protocols, processes, policies, and standards.
- Experience of managing small projects.
- Demonstrated flexibility and positive attitude towards the support of technical services in a fast-paced environment with inherent risks and several stakeholders with differing views of success.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Microsoft EntraID and associated components, such as Group Policy & DNS.
- Experience in operational IT planning and execution.
- Experience and knowledge of supporting technical solutions in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience working in an Agile environment to deliver service improvement.
- Experience of supporting University faculties & schools in all aspects of IT support.
- ITIL v3/4 Qualification (Foundation Minimum).
