About the Role

Vallum Associates Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Unix Systems Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our IT infrastructure team, you will be responsible for providing technical guidance and support to our global teams, ensuring the smooth operation of our Unix-based systems and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, ensuring the successful delivery of projects and changes.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Be a subject matter expert for the Operating System, guiding functional delivery teams across the organization for process/system improvements.
  • Project Delivery: Deliver projects, services, and kits on time with minimal issues, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Change Management: Perform changes in the GPS Unix environment on weekdays and weekends, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Platform Support: Provide overall Unix platforms' support to projects, ensuring stability and reliability.
  • Issue Resolution: Satisfy changes during a working week and on live production over a weekend, resolving issues promptly.
  • Support and Guidance: Provide 2nd and 3rd line support from time to time for break-fix issues, guiding teams in resolving technical issues.
  • Technical Expertise: Have a senior level of technical expertise in development engineering and scripting (ksh/bash) to produce automated, efficient, and self-service solutions for technical teams or end-user stakeholders.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate solutions, errors, status reports, and liaise at all levels of the business, ensuring effective communication.
  • Teamwork and Adaptability: Work as a fully engaged and contributing engineer within a team, adapting to changing priorities and requirements.
  • Break-Fix Support: Assist with any break-fix issues in the environment, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Long Hours and Prioritization: On occasion, may be asked to work longer hours to complete a piece of work, prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Efficiency and Innovation: Come up with ideas to make the environment more efficient, whether procedural or technical, suggesting process enhancements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and work on initiatives for process efficiency and service improvement projects to achieve efficiencies (Process. FTE, sustainable saves).

Requirements
  • Language: Fluent in English.
  • Experience: 5 years plus of experience in UNIX infrastructure.
  • Technical Expertise: Expert level knowledge of UNIX (AIX/Solaris/Linux).
  • Veritas Knowledge: Expert level knowledge of Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster Server (SFHA) and Veritas NetBackup Client.
  • Host-Based SAN Migrations: Strong knowledge of host-based SAN migrations.
  • SAN Configuration: Very good understanding of SAN configuration EMC/Hitachi LUNs on UNIX (AIX/Solaris/Linux) servers.
  • Shell Scripting: Ability to develop simple/complex shell scripts (e.g. Bash, Korn) as per requirements.
  • DR and Role Swap Exercises: Ability to support DR / Role swap exercises.
  • Crisis Calls: Effective in dealing with crisis calls/critical issues for business-critical services.
  • Technical Guidance: Proven experience in technically guiding teams in a productivity/results-driven environment.
  • Relationship Building: Proven experience in managing and building relationships with business partners and customer service and stakeholders up and down the chain.
  • IT Infrastructure Support: Worked in at least two of the areas of IT Infrastructure support i.e. Production Support, Application Support & Infrastructure Support.
  • Business Value: Should understand & have proven record of how technology adds value to the business and ultimately the end customer.
  • Industry Certifications: Should possess industry standard certifications for UNIX/Cluster Technologies.
  • ITIL Concepts: Should be well versed with ITIL concepts and more specific understanding of Service operations activities.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong technical knowledge in respective technology.
  • Troubleshooting and Analytical Skills: Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Communication and interpersonal skills.

Good to Have Requirements
  • Finance and Banking Industry Experience: Experience in the Finance and Banking industry would be an advantage.
  • Full Stack Engineering Skills: Full stack engineering skills e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, Groovy, Jenkins, Mulesoft and Kong API.
  • Cloud Services: Google and Amazon Cloud Services.
  • Programming Languages: Python, Perl, Groovy, C.
  • JIRA: Use of JIRA would be welcomed.
  • Automation Skills: Automation skills with a mindset to explore and exploit the technologies we could and should use safely and efficiently within the Bank.
