Key Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in police stations and criminal proceedings, including trials and bail hearings.
  • Liaise with clients, counsel, defendants, and other parties to ensure effective communication and case management.
  • Collate and review documentation and evidence to build strong cases.
  • Obtain medical and accountancy evidence when required and interpret that evidence to advise clients accordingly.
  • Litigate cases and conduct advocacy to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Negotiate with prosecutors on behalf of clients to secure favorable results.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results.
Essential Skills
  • Duty Solicitor accreditation.
  • Knowledge of the Legal Aid system.
  • Advocacy and litigation skills.
  • Clean and valid practicing certificate at the time of applying.
  • Excellent client care skills with the ability to represent vulnerable clients.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • IT literacy (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.).
Preferred Skills
  • Additional certificates and qualifications such as the Advocates Gateway.
  • Specialist expertise in one or more areas of criminal law, particularly motoring offences and financial crime, white-collar, financial, and business crime.
