About the Role
The Stroud District Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the implementation of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) in the district. As a key member of the Development Management team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the council's approach to BNG and ensuring that new development protects and enhances biodiversity for future generations.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective strategies for BNG, working closely with planning and ecology colleagues to ensure successful delivery of BNG, nature recovery, and ecological improvements across the district.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on BNG, including the assessment of biodiversity metric calculations, BNG statements, and biodiversity gain plans.
- Collaborate with partners within the Local Nature Recovery Partnership and other statutory agencies to drive BNG implementation and nature recovery initiatives.
- Work with developers and stakeholders to negotiate and agree on BNG solutions that meet the council's requirements and contribute to the district's nature recovery goals.
- Contribute to the development of policies and guidelines for BNG, ensuring that they are aligned with the council's overall strategy for nature recovery.
About You
We are looking for a qualified ecologist with a strong understanding of the principles of BNG, the requirements of the Environment Act, and other relevant legislation and policy. You will have a proven track record of working in a similar role, with experience in the planning process and ecological context within development management. You will be able to demonstrate your expertise and enthusiasm for BNG and nature recovery, and be committed to making a positive impact on the district's biodiversity.
