Job Title: Base Operative

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Base Operative to join our team at OBM People. As a key member of our quayside operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of cargo handling and vessel loading/offloading activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure uninvolved personnel are clear of suspended loads.
  • Assist in the coordination of all crane lifting operations.
  • Transport and log lifting equipment.
  • Ensure all equipment used is compliant with legislation.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day interface between lifting operations and other affected areas.
  • Accurately control and track lifting equipment.
  • Assist with the planning of lifting operations.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of lifting operations/deck areas.
  • Assist with the loading/unloading of containers and cargo handling.
  • Regularly participate in the review of procedures, work aids, and risk assessments.

Minimum Competencies:

  • Team player and good communicator.
  • Customer and safety focused with a proven track record in quayside operations.
  • Accustomed to working effectively in a fast-paced environment, flexible, and able to adapt to changing workloads and priorities.
  • High levels of spatial awareness.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solutions-based with strong planning and organizing skills and an excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while being a positive contributor to the wider team.
  • Motivated to achieve the highest standards of performance and customer support, maintaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
