Position Overview

Age UK Canterbury is seeking an experienced Advanced Podiatrist with a focus on Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Biomechanics to enhance our dedicated team of Podiatrists and Royal College of Podiatry Assistant Practitioners.

Our organization operates multiple fully equipped clinics, featuring lower limb vascular assessment capabilities and a state-of-the-art MSK biomechanics laboratory, complemented by advanced gait analysis technology. We also provide a well-established home visiting service to cater to our clients' needs.

As a training partner with the University of Plymouth, we offer a supportive environment for Apprentice Podiatrists, where all Podiatrists take on the role of Clinical Educator for both MSc and BSc students.

Age UK Canterbury is recognized as an accredited NHS AQP provider, collaborating with Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our newly established MSK Service. This role involves collaboration with fellow Podiatrists and Royal College of Podiatry Assistant Practitioners to advance this critical service area. The introduction of our biomechanics laboratory, equipped with cutting-edge gait analysis tools, will support this initiative. Continuous professional development (CPD) will be actively encouraged and supported.

About Age UK Canterbury

As a local independent charity, Age UK Canterbury is dedicated to delivering social, health, and wellbeing services to older adults in the Canterbury area and beyond. Our friendly team consists of 35 staff members, including 12 within the Podiatry Service.

Established for over a decade, our Podiatry Service was recently awarded AQP NHS contract status, enabling us to provide essential podiatric care.

Job Duties

The Advanced Podiatrist will:

  • Deliver comprehensive podiatric care, utilizing a full spectrum of skills and evidence-based practices to achieve optimal outcomes for patients.
  • Assist in the management and enhancement of the Foot Health Service.
  • Support the training and supervision of Apprentice Podiatrists and Assistant Practitioners, adhering to Royal College of Podiatry guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Podiatry to ensure effective continuous development programs for all trainees.
  • Provide treatment aimed at maintaining mobility and independence while alleviating discomfort.
  • Act as an ambassador for the Foot Health Service, promoting multidisciplinary teamwork across various care settings.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and caregivers to ensure a clear understanding of conditions and treatment plans.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, including GDPR and confidentiality standards.

Training and Development

Participation in ongoing training is expected, including:

  • Basic and Emergency First Aid
  • Moving and Handling
  • Dementia Training
  • Adult Protection

The Podiatrist will be encouraged to attend Royal College of Podiatry CPD events, including the Annual Conference, and will receive support for professional development throughout their career.
