About The Role

Morrison Water Services, part of the M Group Services Water Division, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team in Leeds. As a leading service provider in the water and wastewater infrastructure sectors in the UK, we employ circa 3000 people across the UK and Ireland.

Our people provide essential infrastructure services through long-term framework agreements to the water and wastewater sectors in the UK and Ireland. The Water Division provides a broad range of technical capabilities to our clients, ranging from asset condition assessment to design, build, commissioning and completion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of our AMP7/AMP8 contracts in Yorkshire, including infrastructure, customer-focused, and minor civils clean and waste water capital works. The role will involve managing cash flow, ensuring timely receipt of payments, and maintaining a healthy working capital position.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in quantity surveying, preferably gained within utilities contracting, and a detailed understanding of NEC contracts. They will be able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels and have the ability to identify opportunities for improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage commercial influences around cost and value reporting and changes required to ensure profit targets are met
  • Ensure cash is received on time and aligned to forecast targets
  • Manage working capital, ensuring it is kept at an optimum level for the contract
  • Be an effective negotiator at both internal and client levels
  • Produce and present monthly CVR's/profit and loss accounts
  • Ensure all work completed is accurately valued and followed through to cash collection
  • Oversee the procurement and management of sub-contractor applications and payments and other suppliers
  • Cash flow and aged debt reporting
  • Develop and implement changes to process following understanding of a need to make changes to improve performance
  • Manage the Early Warning and Compensation Event process
  • Manage and support other commercial team members
Requirements
  • Previous experience in quantity surveying, preferably gained within utilities contracting
  • Detailed understanding and previous experience of NEC contracts
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with staff at all levels
  • Capability and desire to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Full driving licence as there will be an element of site-based travel involved within the role
