GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our client secondary school in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will provide support to children with special educational needs, ensuring all students can access education in a way that works best for them.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural difficulties, or sensory impairments.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to adapt learning materials to the student's needs.
- Encourage students to collaborate and communicate with one another, and involve every student in activities.
- Manage challenging behaviour, implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and reduce disruptions.
- Provide help with mobility, feeding, personal hygiene, and other daily tasks.
- Help students build confidence, develop social skills, manage stress, and cope with any challenges related to their special educational needs.
- Support learning beyond the classroom such as organising trips or supporting extra-curricular activities.
- Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
- Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
- Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
- Experience working with children who have a variety of disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or an eagerness to go through training.
- Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
- Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions.
- Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
