Position Overview
The Insolvency Service is seeking a dedicated Senior Investigator to join our Live Investigation Teams. This role involves conducting confidential inquiries into active companies utilizing the powers granted under Section 447 of the Companies Act 1985. Investigators in this position are empowered by the Secretary of State to demand the submission of documents and information from companies and third parties, as well as to enter and remain on business premises.
Role Responsibilities
The Senior Investigator will play a crucial role in the Investigation and Enforcement Services directorate, focusing on investigations into companies where there are indications of non-compliance with public interest standards.
The key responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of intricate investigations under Section 447, ensuring adherence to internal protocols and Government Counter Fraud Standards.
- Conducting thorough reviews and research of available information sources.
- Performing unannounced visits to company premises to enforce Section 447 authority, utilizing strong interpersonal skills to gain cooperation.
- Engaging with company directors and third parties, including solicitors and accountants, who may be hesitant to participate.
- Carrying out investigative interviews with relevant parties.
- Identifying and formally requesting necessary documents to support the investigation.
- Analyzing and reviewing documentation to uncover potential misconduct or criminal activities.
- Providing well-reasoned recommendations to management based on investigative findings.
- Handling sensitive information with discretion, in compliance with the established disclosure regime.
- Drafting comprehensive reports suitable for civil and criminal proceedings.
- Collaborating with legal professionals and other stakeholders to facilitate investigations.
- Providing testimony in court as needed.
Work Arrangement
This position supports part-time applications, with a minimum requirement of 30 hours per week.

Training Requirement
Completion of the Insolvency Service Investigator Programme (ISIP) is mandatory within a two-year timeframe for successful candidates.
