NHS Scotland is committed to promoting equality and diversity in our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. We strive to create an inclusive environment where each employee feels valued and empowered to contribute their best.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Practitioner with an MRCGP qualification to join our team as a Forensic Physician. Alternatively, we welcome applications from non-General Practitioners with relevant experience in Forensic Medicine. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and challenging environment, performing forensic medical examinations and assessments under the instruction of Police Scotland.
The role offers a diverse range of clinical presentations, with on-the-job training available to support professional development. As part of our team, you will work closely with experienced Forensic & Custody Nurses who act as 'gatekeepers' to the service, managing patients in custody and coordinating forensic examinations. You will have the opportunity to present your findings in court and gain a privileged insight into the inner workings of the police and criminal justice system.
Our team of 3 Forensic Physicians covers a 24/7 rota, with one week working days and the other two covering 2 or 3 nights on call, while also covering sexual offence forensic medical examinations. We offer a range of facilities, including medical and forensic medical rooms in the police headquarters, a purpose-built paediatric examination suite, and a forensic examination suite.
As a Forensic Physician with NHS Scotland, you will have access to postgraduate examinations via the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine, offering opportunities for career development and growth. Your own transport and driving license are essential for this role.
