About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Ecology Officer to join our Biodiversity and Greenspaces Team at Cambridgeshire County Council. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital role in delivering the Council's biodiversity duties and contributing to the conservation of our natural environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and respond to planning applications to ensure the Council meets its statutory duty for conserving and enhancing biodiversity.
  • Advise on ecological aspects of planning applications, including pre-application responses.
  • Support the delivery of the Council's biodiversity strategy and other policies, working collaboratively with internal colleagues.
  • Undertake ecology surveys and write reports.
  • Assist the team with delivery of the Council's Biodiversity Strategy, Tree & Woodland Strategy, and Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS).
Requirements
  • Proven experience in ecological planning and conservation.
  • Strong understanding of ecological planning issues and the ability to prioritize responses to planning applications.
  • Confidence in providing habitat management advice for the Council's owned nature reserves and other biodiversity sites.
  • Ability to work with local communities and advise colleagues on the Council's major projects.
  • Experience in developing and implementing new policies.
  • Ability to make informed and independent decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literacy with experience in GIS systems and using databases.
