About the Role

We are seeking a qualified teacher with experience in supporting young people with complex learning needs to join our team at a truly unique provision in Exmouth. The school is looking for a teacher at secondary level (or an experienced post-16 teacher) to provide outstanding support to a class of 5 students, aged, who are deaf and have accompanying complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the experiential learning of the class and work collaboratively with support staff.
  • Be supported by a fantastic and highly experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who will provide ongoing support.
  • Gradually take increasing responsibility for the class, once you have got to know the learners in more detail and their day-to-day routines.
  • Work with a 1:1 teaching assistant to support you in overcoming any communication barriers.
About the Curriculum

The curriculum is developed to help prepare students for adulthood and life beyond education. Your days will include activities such as going to local garden centres, cooking, independent travel training, and swimming.

Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at Secondary Level or be an experienced post-16 teacher who has worked closely with students with complex needs.
  • BSL qualification is desirable but not essential (our school would support this training).
  • Confidence in leading and managing a small team of support staff.
  • Great interpersonal skills and excellent decision-making abilities.
  • Proactive, resilient, and a real passion for making a difference.
  • A willingness to learn and develop.
