Position Overview
We are pleased to announce an opening for a Clinical Fellow in Surgical Retina within the Ophthalmology department at East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care of patients suffering from retinal disorders.
The ideal candidate will actively participate in patient management, both under guidance and independently. This fellowship is a full-time position with a fixed duration, providing a chance to extend based on performance and departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
This role provides extensive clinical and surgical exposure to various retinal conditions and vitreoretinal issues. Responsibilities include:
- Managing urgent cases during clinical sessions.
- Engaging in both informal and formal educational activities.
- Overseeing patients referred to the Primary Retina Care service.
- While there is no on-call duty, the fellow will be expected to assist with acute vitreoretinal emergencies as needed.
Essential Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
- MBBS or equivalent qualification.
- Broad experience in General Ophthalmology and Retina.
- Proficiency in Cataract Surgery.
- A minimum of three years of experience in Ophthalmology.
- Completion of 30-60 pars plana vitrectomy procedures.
- Ability to manage stressful situations and take on responsibilities.
Desirable Attributes
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
- FRCOphth or MRCOphth or equivalent.
- Experience in Retinal Imaging.
- Knowledge in the management of Retinal diseases.
- Familiarity with Database Systems and Electronic Patient Records (Medisoft).
- A demonstrated commitment to specializing in Surgical Retina.
- Near completion or completion of Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology.
