Position Summary:

The Heavy Lift Specialist is responsible for operating the rig's crane safely and efficiently, adhering to company policies and procedures. This role includes performing regular preventative maintenance on cranes and their components.

Reporting Structure:

Reports directly to the Master/OIM and Senior Mate/Chief Mate.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees the Assistant Crane Operator and Roustabout.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • All necessary licenses and certifications for the operational region.
  • Preferred: Successful Military Discharge.
  • Preferred: Graduate of a Trade School or University relevant to job requirements.
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates.

Operational Discipline:

  • Adhere to the company risk management system.
  • Understand and execute assigned roles and responsibilities effectively.
  • Identify hazards associated with tasks and implement control measures.
  • Follow procedures diligently and recognize at-risk behaviors.
  • Contribute to After Action Reviews to share lessons learned.

Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate leadership in protecting personnel, the environment, and assets.
  • Ensure compliance with company HSE requirements during operations.
  • Report all incidents and potential hazards promptly.
  • Maintain organized and safe work areas.
  • Understand emergency roles as outlined in the Emergency Response Plan.

Key Duties:

The Heavy Lift Specialist is expected to perform all duties in compliance with company operational discipline and HSE requirements. Duties include:

  • Providing guidance to Roustabouts for current and upcoming operations.
  • Participating in pre-tour meetings for non-routine deck operations.
  • Inspecting lifting equipment prior to use.
  • Ensuring loads are balanced and secured before lifting.
  • Operating the crane for various tasks, including personnel transfers and equipment handling.
  • Assisting with rig moves and anchor operations as directed.
  • Conducting safety inspections on crane systems.
  • Maintaining logs of maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring work areas are organized for safe operations.
  • Maintaining communication with team members and supervisors.

Personnel Development:

  • Promoting positive working relationships across departments.
  • Mentoring and training crew members for competency development.
  • Participating in performance appraisal processes.
  • Recognizing and recommending personnel for promotions or disciplinary actions.
