Senior Quantity Surveyor

M Group Services is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee our projects across various regions.

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be an integral part of our Commercial Division, dedicated to supporting the Commercial Department and project teams in optimizing profitability and mitigating risks.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Gathering pertinent information for the timely preparation of reports and claims.
• Facilitating the ongoing application of commercial practices in relation to site personnel while fostering strong relationships with Business Unit and Project Managers.
• Regularly reviewing the project risk management plan to conduct thorough, precise, high-level risk assessments. Maintain the register and associated documentation in line with the plan.
• Assuming ultimate responsibility for managing all subcontractors. Ensure that all subcontractors and suppliers submit compliant quotations/enquiries/applications within the required timeframe, and generate all necessary documentation to select and secure services, along with monthly assessments, variations/CE claims, and final account agreements through mentorship of the Quantity Surveyor.
• Enhancing your understanding of commercial matters and contract law to effectively manage and negotiate compensation events, variations, and claims.
• Proactively proposing and developing processes aimed at improving accuracy and efficiency, thereby reducing time spent on journal and reconciliation tasks.
• Collaborating with the Commercial Manager and Quantity Surveyor(s) to ensure adequate commercial oversight is maintained.
• Assisting the team and Project Manager, Engineers, and Planners in recovering contract costs while boosting project profitability by identifying variations, delays, and claims.
• Contributing to the production of monthly project financial reports and forecasts for analysis alongside Finance and Commercial staff.
• Developing strong negotiation skills and attending handover and progress meetings as required.
• Assisting in the creation of a site commercial manual and documentation to record variations.

• Performing any other duties as necessary to meet the evolving demands of the business and fulfill customer requirements.

• Exceptional negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills.

• Financial acumen.
• Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Experience in contract costing.
• Knowledge of contract law (NEC3/4).
• Prior experience in a Quantity Surveying or Cost Clerk role.
• Experience in contract management, including capturing site records for variations and valuations while supporting a project team.
• Subcontractor management expertise.
• Cost and value reconciliation skills.
• Qualification in Quantity Surveying.
• Graduate or equivalent level of education.
• Full UK driving license.
• Industry knowledge is advantageous.
