We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to lead our Caledonian Canal team.
The Caledonian Canal stands as one of Scotland's most significant industrial heritage treasures, serving as a vibrant commercial waterway, a transport route, and a picturesque backdrop for countless visitors each year.
In this pivotal role, you will guide, mentor, support, and develop your locally based teams to provide a consistently safe, efficient, and enjoyable experience for our customers and visitors.
This position is offered on a permanent basis with a competitive starting salary. The role entails a commitment of 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hours work to meet operational needs.
Scottish Canals provides a generous annual leave package of 28 days, in addition to 10 public holidays, enhanced sick pay, discounted shopping vouchers, and a contributory pension scheme with up to 10% employer contribution.
Key Skills and Experience Required:
- Proven experience in a dynamic business environment, maintaining operational standards during significant transitions.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging fluently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Operational management experience in a visitor or infrastructure network environment that prioritizes excellent customer service or visitor experience.
- Demonstrated experience in visitor-focused roles, showcasing the ability to think strategically while addressing technical challenges.
- Expertise in efficient delivery processes, cost management, performance metrics, and reporting.
- Successful leadership of large teams, fostering high-performing and diverse groups.
- Proven leadership during transformational change.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in enhancing and sustaining motivation and engagement within teams, demonstrating a strong people-centric approach.
- Robust financial management and resource planning capabilities.
- Experience in safety management.
- Contract management experience.
Desirable Attributes:
- Possession or ability to obtain a recognized health and safety qualification (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, IEHO).
- Experience managing and leading a team within a multi-disciplinary customer-facing operational environment, such as retail, events, tourism, or marketing.
- Experience leading a multi-disciplinary team.
