Role Details
The Royal Devon is looking to appoint Consultant Physicians specializing in Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Care, based at the North Devon District Hospital.
Established in April 2022, the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust combines the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust and Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust to provide core services to a population of 615,000 and specialized services to a broader audience across the South West Peninsula. This unique organization integrates acute and community services across North and Mid Devon, utilizing a shared advanced electronic notes system (EPIC) with an integrated patient portal. The departments focused on elderly care operate cohesively as a unified team. Consultants will provide both in-person and remote care from our Barnstaple and Exeter locations. The department is committed to supporting newly appointed consultants in developing sub-specialty interests and pursuing research and educational opportunities.
The Royal Devon is dedicated to enhancing services in North Devon and aims to attract the finest clinicians to this picturesque region. This role offers a unique chance to influence and elevate our elderly care services with the backing of our senior management and consultant team. Significant investments have been made in our infrastructure, including a dementia-friendly ward and improved pathways for frail patients to enhance accessibility. We are also transforming our community hospital beds into a model for non-acute frailty services.
Our organization operates a robust non-medical model with outstanding therapy leadership, and our Pathfinder team serves as the link between acute and community care, aiding in reducing admissions and facilitating complex discharges. This team comprises senior nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, and support staff, ensuring a high standard of patient care.
The Trust boasts a multi-million-pound clinical research facility, is a NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, and has ambitious plans for future development. Additionally, we are located in Devon, a region celebrated for its natural beauty, including stunning beaches and moorlands, excellent educational institutions, good transport connections, and a high quality of life.
