We are seeking a highly skilled and qualified accountant to take on the role of Finance Manager.
The Finance Manager position at Nickel will initially be an individual contributor role, requiring close collaboration with various internal departments, including compliance, trading, middle office, investor relations, and human resources. This position offers a broad and diverse experience, presenting an excellent opportunity for an ambitious qualified accountant to lead the financial operations of the business, overseeing the comprehensive management of the Company's finance function.
The responsibilities encompass the preparation and analysis of management accounts, financial and regulatory reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit and control, cash management, as well as tax and payroll functions.
This role is dynamic and multifaceted, situated within the fast-paced environment of a growing hedge fund in the innovative digital asset space, reporting directly to the management team. Nickel is rapidly expanding and introducing new funds and products. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing a demanding workload and making an immediate impact, with the capability to handle competing deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily financial operations for the Company.
- Develop comprehensive reporting, including performance reports and quarterly management accounts.
- Maintain robust accounting operations and processes, particularly control systems, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with external accountants and auditors to ensure timely completion of annual audited financial statements.
- Work alongside the COO to guarantee accurate and timely compliance reporting to the FCA and US regulators.
- Manage government reporting obligations and tax filings, coordinating with internal teams and relevant service providers.
- Ensure timely submission of all statutory accounts and confirmation statements.
- Process payroll efficiently, ensuring compliance with regulations and overseeing expense management.
- Handle foreign exchange hedging and conversions, addressing ad-hoc requests as needed.
- Coordinate audits for investment funds and the investment manager.
- Collaborate with middle office and fund administrators to ensure accurate accounting treatment of fund financial performance.
- Prepare consolidated group accounts for stakeholders.
- Prepare and present financial forecasts to management.
- Stay informed on relevant changes in accounting legislation to ensure compliance and best practices, particularly concerning digital assets.
Qualifications and Skills
- Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) with a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience.
- Graduate from a reputable university, preferably from the Russell Group or equivalent international standard.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently or within a small team.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with Xero is a plus.
- Experience in an asset management finance team is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with senior stakeholders across the organization.
- Commercially aware, adaptable, and entrepreneurial with a keen attention to detail.
- Enthusiastic about leveraging technology to enhance efficiency.
- Solid understanding of tax, accounting principles, and financial regulations.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive base salary starting from £60k per annum, depending on experience.
