Job Title: Bank Community Phlebotomist

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Phlebotomist to join our team on a bank/zero hours basis. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for performing venepuncture on adult patients in the community setting, working without direct supervision.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ensure patients are treated safely and courteously, with minimal distress or discomfort during the blood sampling procedure.
  • Perform routine venepuncture and report any changes in patient condition to the health professional requesting the procedure.
  • Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and follow relevant policy and procedures.
  • Check accurate data on GP/hospital phlebotomy request forms.
  • Identify and report untoward incidents, accidents, and clinical risks to the lead nurse and electronic incident reporting system.
  • Work unsupervised and be accountable for own actions while providing direct patient care.
Requirements:
  • Evidence of good education level.
  • Certificate of competence in adult venepuncture.
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
  • O Level/GCSE standard English and Mathematics.
Key Skills and Qualities:
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to phlebotomy.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and provide patients with reassurance and empathy.
  • Physical skills for manual dexterity to undertake venepuncture.

This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required.
