Location: Reading (minimum 3 days per week)

Compensation: Approximately £600 per day, outside IR35, commensurate with experience

Overview: Oversee contract execution in a post-award setting, focusing on extensive infrastructure construction frameworks utilizing the NEC4 ECC Option C.

The Senior Commercial Manager will be responsible for the daily commercial operations of our projects. Leveraging your expertise, you will offer strategic advice and direction, oversee all processes and negotiations related to contract and client performance, and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and contractual obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage project budgets.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to supervise the commercial and contractual elements of projects.
  • Review and advise on contracts, managing risks while optimizing operational contract performance, including the submission of Early Warnings and all necessary notifications.
  • Oversee the procurement of subcontracts and manage the commercial and contractual aspects of all subcontractors involved.
  • Lead negotiations with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to secure favorable terms and resolve contractual issues.
  • Stay informed on industry best practices, legislative changes, and emerging trends in commercial management.
  • Monitor the performance of commercial activities using key performance indicators and prepare timely reports for senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare monthly applications and manage forecasts to ensure the achievement of monthly and annual financial targets, collaborating with the finance department to manage cash flow effectively.
  • Work with Project Managers to produce accurate monthly Cost Value Reports (CVRs), consolidating individual reports into monthly management accounts in conjunction with the Finance department and Commercial Director.
  • Negotiate final accounts with both clients and subcontractors.
  • Represent internal and external stakeholders at meetings and events with clients, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other departments and members of the Senior Management Team to facilitate the achievement of the company's strategic and operational objectives.
  • Perform any additional duties that align with the experience of the role holder and the requirements of the position.

Qualifications for Success:

Essential Requirements:

  • 10-15 years of experience in a Senior Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the NEC Suite of Contracts is essential.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and financial principles, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in leading financial management and cost control on projects.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Understanding of risk analysis and management, with the ability to address issues proactively.
  • Proficient in IT, particularly with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for site visits and project meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification.
  • MCIPS certification is desirable.
