We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Instructor in Uniformed Public Services with a specialism in Outdoor Education and Leadership. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality outdoor adventurous activities to our students, assessing their skills, and maintaining equipment to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver instruction in high-quality outdoor adventurous activities, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment for students.
- Supervise, assess, and evaluate students working in outdoor adventurous activities, adhering to awarding body and national governing body standards.
- Manage and maintain outdoor adventurous activities units and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Liaise with lecturers and support staff to monitor student progress and provide updates on skills development.
- Review and develop operating systems and risk assessments in collaboration with the Centre Director, Programme Manager, and lecturing staff.
- Maintain equipment stock levels, ensuring all equipment is fit for purpose and compliant with standard operating procedures.
- Ensure the health and safety of all equipment and monitor outdoor adventure equipment maintenance or replacement needs.
- Maintain accurate records of outdoor adventurous activities equipment and data inputted onto computer systems and paper systems.
- Follow current outdoor adventure, sport, and public services Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist in the organisation and delivery of outdoor adventurous activities away days and residentials, ensuring compliance with College, NGB, and safeguarding policies.
- Generate and achieve income targets, including sales, and liaise with corporate facilities for specialist equipment.
- Ensure continuous development and improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence with D1+E entitlement (or equivalent).
- A range of outdoor adventure qualifications, including Mountain Leader, Single Pitch Award, Lowland Leader, Paddling Instructor, and UKCC Level 2.
- A minimum of one higher-level qualification in any discipline.
- Relevant First Aid Qualification.
- Higher-level qualifications, including Winter Mountain Leader, MIA/MIC, UKCC White Water Endorsement, and Cave Leader Level 1 or higher.
- Relevant outdoor adventure degree or foundation degree.
- Teaching qualification, such as PTLLS, or a willingness to achieve the qualification.
- Assessor Awards A1 & V1.
- Working in a variety of outdoor and adventurous environments, including private and LEA settings, across different age groups.
- Instructing to a higher level.
- Ability to deal with a flexible workload.
- Experience of working within a learning support environment.
- Logging, maintaining, and repairing specialist outdoor and adventurous equipment.
- Local and national venues for outdoor adventure.
- Up-to-date and relevant knowledge of H&S within Outdoor Adventure.
- Basic level in Microsoft applications, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- Willingness to undertake training appropriate to the role.
