About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to join our team at Leidos. As a Software Developer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of software solutions for our clients in the Cyber Security domain.

Key Responsibilities
  • Software Development: Develop tools and techniques at pace that are mission-focused, utilizing your expertise in C++, Java, and Rust programming languages.
  • Requirements Generation and Management: Generate and manage requirements to ensure that software solutions meet the needs of our clients.
  • Technical Solutions Design: Design technical solutions and provide software development of those solutions, leveraging your knowledge of the latest technologies and how they can be applied to complex problems.
  • System Test and Verification: Conduct system test and verification activities, including test generation, execution, and documentation.
  • System Integration: Facilitate the integration of hardware and software throughout the development process.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership of engineering teams, supervising, estimating, progress monitoring, and reporting.
Requirements
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in C++, Java, and Rust programming languages for both application and embedded code development.
  • Development Tools: Experience with development tools, integrated development environments (IDEs), and toolchains relevant to development boards.
  • Communication Protocols: Experience of communication protocols to interface with peripheral devices.
  • Embedded Systems: Proficiency in coding for embedded systems.
  • Unit Testing: Experience in writing and conducting unit tests for code reliability.
  • Version Control: Proficient in using version control systems like Git for code collaboration.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze problems and come up with effective solutions.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts and collaborate with team members.
  • Professional Experience: Professional experience in the design and implementation of complex solutions, ideally both clean-slate projects and updates to legacy code bases.
  • Platform APIs: Comfortable with platform APIs, development environments, and native debugging approaches on one or more of: Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android.
  • Code Quality: Commitment to code correctness and quality assurance through static analysis, code review, automated testing, and continuous integration.
Desirable Skills
  • Cryptography: Understanding of encryption algorithms and protocols for securing audio streams.
  • USB Communication: Proficient in interfacing with a computer via USB, knowledge of USB protocols and device drivers.
  • Wireless Protocols: Understanding of Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth protocols and their standards.
  • Government Projects: Experience of working on secure Government, or MoD IT projects and programmes.
Education
  • Degree: A degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional Membership: Professional membership of BCS or IET.
