Medical Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at IDEXX. As a key member of our Microbiology department, you will play a critical role in testing samples of faeces and urine from small animals, primarily pet dogs and cats.
Our laboratory is a fast-paced and dynamic environment where no two days are ever the same. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of samples, including those from livestock and exotic species, and will be responsible for preparing and accessing samples for laboratory analysis and testing.
As a Medical Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you will be involved in the analysis and evaluation of chemical and microscopic components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques. You will also examine samples to identify parasites, utilizing faecal flotation and various microscopic techniques.
We are looking for a candidate who is highly organized, able to prioritize and multi-task, and has excellent attention to detail. You will be working as part of a team, and will have full autonomy in your work, but will also have access to full support when needed.
Key Responsibilities- Receive, prepare, and access veterinary samples (urine and faeces) for laboratory analysis and testing.
- Analyze and evaluate chemical and microscopic components of urine samples using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
- Examine samples to identify parasites using faecal flotation and various microscopic techniques.
- Process clinical samples for the identification of bacteria and fungi using automated and manual methods.
- Work with a variety of samples, including those from livestock and exotic species.
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Sciences / Microbiology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a similar position or veterinary practice desired.
- Practical experience in Urinalysis, Parasitology and/or Microbiology.
- Ability to read, understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
- Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task, with excellent attention to detail.
- Meet the physical requirements of the role, including standing and sitting for extended periods, phone and computer use, and lifting up to 50lb.
