Position Overview

We are pleased to present an opportunity for a permanent position within our pediatric Speech and Language Therapy Team. This role will involve working in both specialized educational settings and mainstream educational institutions, focusing on supporting children and adolescents with specific communication needs.

We invite applications from both newly qualified professionals and those with prior experience, and we are open to considering this position as either a Band 6 or a Band 5/6 developmental role.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will engage in a diverse range of activities, guided by senior colleagues:

  • Providing support to children and young individuals with specific communication needs, particularly those with Education Health and Care plans, in both mainstream and specialized educational settings.
  • Collaborating with educational staff in specialized institutions to foster communication-friendly environments and enhance the curriculum to prioritize communication throughout daily activities.
  • Participating in health pathways related to dysfluency and speech sound disorders.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development (CPD) activities and contributing to departmental meetings, clinical audits, and various projects.
  • Delivering training sessions, initially alongside a senior colleague, to other professionals and caregivers regarding all aspects of speech, language, and communication.
  • Involvement in the training of Speech and Language Therapy students and supervising the work of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Teaching Assistants (TAs).
  • Newly qualified therapists will have the opportunity to participate in a preceptorship program.

Candidate Requirements

Essential Qualifications:

  • Recognized degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council for License to Practice.
  • Membership in the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in delivering training and developing clear care plans based on comprehensive assessments.
  • Ability to engage children and young people in the goal-setting process.
  • Proficient in writing accessible reports that demonstrate clinical reasoning.
  • Experience working with children with speech, language, and communication needs in educational settings.
