About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Park Manager to join our team at the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. As a key member of our park management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of one of our state parks, ensuring that all aspects of park management are carried out in accordance with division and agency policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the management of park staff, including recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and managing employee performance.
  • Manage and track expenses, procure materials and services, and assist with the development of the annual park budget.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of park programs and services, including recreational and educational activities.
  • Provide supervision and inspection of cyclical facilities and grounds maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with OSHA, VDH, and agency standards.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of cultural and natural resources of the park.
  • Provide supervision and oversight for volunteer programs.
  • In the absence of the Park Manager, have direct responsibility to ensure and maintain continuity of operations and adherence to the goals and objectives of the park and division.
Requirements
  • Previous work history demonstrating experience and knowledge of grounds/facility maintenance practices.
  • Previous work history demonstrating experience and knowledge of personnel management/supervision and providing staff training.
  • Previous experience performing duties related to revenue collection/reporting, and financial/budget tracking.
  • Previous experience demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to external and internal stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of resource management techniques, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Previous experience assisting management activities for special events such as planning, scheduling, working with partners, and marketing.
Additional Considerations
  • Sworn conservation officer designation with certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Considerable knowledge of natural and cultural resource issues and processes, and regulatory requirements with the ability to accommodate them into facility management.
  • Working knowledge of major trades and constructions techniques.
  • Previous experience in managing/ tracking sales; performing procurement transactions, credit card purchasing; coordinating inventory tracking and loss prevention management.
  • Assist with activities that promote marketing and increase revenue for enterprise operations.
  • Previous work history demonstrating experience and knowledge of managing park interpretive programs.
  • Possession of a Pesticide License.
  • Experience in heavy Equipment Operation.
  • Experience in chainsaw Operation.
