As part of our commitment to enhancing work-life balance, NHS Scotland is transitioning to a reduced full-time working week of 37 hours, effective from a specified date. This change will also apply proportionately to part-time staff. Please note that while this adjustment is being implemented, some service areas may require temporary additional hours, for which compensation will be provided until the new schedules are fully adopted.

In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring high-quality patient care within a modern adult acute and children's hospital facility. The Facilities Directorate is responsible for a range of services, including patient and retail catering, domestic cleaning, portering, and transport, all of which are essential to supporting quality patient care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the delivery of catering services to patients and for various functions within the hospital.
  • Reheating patient meals either centrally or at the ward level.
  • Plating patient meals at the point of service as directed by nursing staff.
  • Cleaning and washing all equipment, machinery, and crockery associated with catering services.
  • Supporting food production staff with basic meal preparation.
  • Undertaking the picking and packing of patient meal components.
  • Facilitating the overall delivery of patient meals to the ward level.

Compliance with Food Hygiene Regulations is essential in this position. No prior qualifications or experience are necessary, as comprehensive training will be provided on the job. However, the ability to work effectively under pressure and possess strong communication skills is important.

Salary: The salary is calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time hours.
