Job Title: Caretaker

Location: Bournemouth

Working Hours: 25 hours per week, 1pm – 6pm Monday-Friday

GSL Education is collaborating with a local primary institution in Bournemouth to find a committed Site Maintenance Assistant who is enthusiastic about ensuring a secure and tidy educational environment.

As a Site Maintenance Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include safeguarding the school premises, conducting routine inspections of equipment and facilities, and promptly addressing any maintenance concerns. Daily tasks will encompass litter collection, minor repairs, and ensuring unobstructed pedestrian access, particularly during adverse weather conditions. You will also be responsible for overseeing contractors, managing deliveries, and ensuring the functionality of restroom facilities for both staff and students.

The ideal candidate will possess relevant experience in site maintenance, a meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive mindset towards identifying and resolving issues. The school promotes a healthy work-life balance and fosters a supportive community among staff. This role has the potential to transition into a permanent position if both the school and the candidate find it to be a suitable match.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the activation and deactivation of security systems as a key holder.
  • Conduct regular inspections of playgrounds, equipment, alarm systems, and fire safety equipment; report any issues.
  • Perform daily litter collection and uphold the cleanliness of school grounds.
  • Identify and report deficiencies in buildings or furniture; carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and quality of work performed by contractors.
  • Handle deliveries and maintain clear drainage and gutter systems.
  • Ensure safe pedestrian access, especially during inclement weather.
  • Maintain and replenish restroom supplies for staff and students; address any blockages.
  • Set up and dismantle furniture for school events; manage waste disposal.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations; report hazards and comply with safety protocols.
  • Utilize manual and power tools for maintenance tasks; gain understanding of alarm and CCTV systems through provided training.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in general maintenance, plumbing, or DIY tasks.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm, efficiency, flexibility (especially regarding working hours), friendliness, and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to engage in training as required.
