Job Summary:

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Librarian (Gaelic & Outreach) to join our team. As a key member of our library service, you will play a vital role in promoting and supporting the growth and use of Gaelic language and culture in the Western Isles.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to promote Gaelic language and culture, working closely with community partners, local and national organizations, and schools.
  • Manage and develop Gaelic collections, services, and programs, ensuring they are accessible and effective for a wide range of audiences.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to promote Gaelic language and culture, and to support the development of Gaelic language and culture in the Western Isles.
  • Develop and manage Gaelic language plans for the library service, working in collaboration with key stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Excellent Gaelic language skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
  • Proven experience in promoting and supporting Gaelic language and culture, with a strong understanding of the needs and priorities of the Western Isles community.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to delivering high-quality services and programs.
