Overview

We are thrilled to present an opportunity for a Garden Maintenance Operative to become part of our dedicated team.

In this hands-on role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that the gardens are kept in pristine condition, working alongside a passionate and knowledgeable group of horticulturalists.

Work Environment

As a member of our team, you will report to one of the Senior Gardeners and collaborate with a group of 10 other skilled gardeners, supported by 75 volunteers throughout the week. Your work schedule will consist of 4 days per week, from 7:30 AM to 4 PM.

The estate features a stunning Italianate mansion and a picturesque riverside setting, attracting visitors year-round. This vibrant location offers a variety of tasks, including the conservation of unique garden areas. The team is known for its close-knit atmosphere and strong sense of community.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will encompass a variety of practical horticultural tasks aimed at enhancing and preserving the garden. Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging in both hard and soft landscaping projects.
  • Performing general garden maintenance, including mulching, pruning, leaf clearing, and weeding.
  • Utilizing machinery such as hedge cutters, leaf blowers, lawnmowers, and tractors.

You will assist with the planting and upkeep of trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, and seasonal bedding. Additionally, you will be involved in hedge trimming and lawn mowing, ensuring the highest standards are upheld for the enjoyment of our visitors.

Supporting our garden volunteers will be a key aspect of your role, helping them maximize their contributions. You will also engage with the public, answering inquiries and assisting with gardening workshops, tours, and events as needed.



Candidate Profile

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Professional training as a gardener or horticulturalist, with substantial practical experience and a solid understanding of plant care.
  • RHS Level 2 or an equivalent qualification or practical experience.
  • Confidence in participating in garden activities and events.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining gardening machinery and equipment, including tractors and hedge cutters, with necessary health and safety certifications.
