Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments of school-aged children and young people with additional health needs and learning disabilities.

  • Complete specialist nursing assessments, plan care, and implement interventions to promote the health and wellbeing of children, young people, and families with complex health needs.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Current registration with the NMC - RSCN/RN Child Branch, Registered Nurse Learning Disabilities.
    • Prepared to undertake relevant training in public health, sexual health, and counselling skills.
    • Evidence of professional development and relevant study.
  • Desirable:
    • Teaching and Assessors Qualification.
    • Evidence of professional development in sexual health, health promotion, public health, or mental health.
    • Relevant experience working with children and families with complex health needs.
Experience
  • Essential:
    • Experience working with children and young people in health or education settings.
    • Experience of multi-agency working.
    • Awareness of safeguarding issues.
    • Awareness of national issues/strategies affecting children and young people.
    • Evidence of continued professional development.
    • Understanding of confidentiality and accountability.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working with children and young people with additional needs.
    • Experience working with children and young people in a community setting.
    • Experience delivering health education programs.
    • Knowledge of the School Nurse role and the wider public health agenda.
