Job Description

Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher to join our team at an Ofsted Good secondary school in York. As a Food Technology Teacher, you will have the opportunity to teach students practical skills in food technology, nutrition, and culinary arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons covering a variety of topics, including cooking methods, recipe development, food preparation, and nutrition, inspiring students to develop their culinary skills and creativity.

  • Practical Cooking: Lead practical cooking sessions in the school kitchen, guiding students in preparing and cooking a range of dishes while promoting safe food handling practices and kitchen hygiene.

  • Nutritional Education: Educate students about the importance of nutrition, balanced diets, and healthy eating habits, empowering them to make informed choices about their food intake and dietary habits.

  • Food Technology: Introduce students to food technology concepts and processes, such as food preservation, packaging, and food product development, fostering their understanding of the food industry and technological innovations.

  • Assessment and Feedback: Regularly assess student practical skills and knowledge through practical demonstrations, food tasting sessions, and written assessments, providing constructive feedback to support their learning and development.

  • Behaviour Management: Establish a positive and supportive learning environment in the kitchen, implementing effective behaviour management strategies that promote teamwork, respect, and responsibility.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Design and Technology department and across the school to share best practices, resources, and ideas for enhancing teaching and learning.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification with a specialism in Food Technology, Home Economics, or related field.

  • Strong practical skills and knowledge in food preparation, cooking techniques, and kitchen management.

  • Previous experience teaching Food Technology or Home Economics at the secondary level, preferably within a UK school setting.

  • Enthusiasm for teaching practical skills and promoting healthy eating habits among students.

  • Commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment in the kitchen.
