The Apprentice IT Service Manager will engage in a variety of essential service management responsibilities, including but not limited to reporting, incident oversight, change and problem resolution, and service management aligned with established targets. You will collaborate closely with Operations at all levels, enhancing service quality and elevating customer satisfaction.
Areas of Assignment
As an apprentice, you will be allocated to one of the following teams:
- Fraud or Debt Live Support Teams: In this capacity, you will assist in managing IT services utilized by Counter Fraud Compliance & Debt, which significantly influences the DWP Live estate across all service lines. Your role will involve supporting colleagues in the Counter Fraud & Debt Management Team to ensure the reliability and quality of vital digital products and services.
- Data & Analytics: This area provides a holistic view of IT Services, covering two main domains: Service Operations and Service Excellence. The team is responsible for overseeing multiple services and managing critical functions such as Technical Debt, Incident Management, Change Management, Service Performance, and Compliance.
To qualify for this apprenticeship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Possess a valid passport, birth certificate, or residence permit.
- Have the legal right to reside and work in the UK.
- Have resided in the UK and/or EEA for a minimum of three years prior to the apprenticeship start date or hold refugee status.
- Not be engaged in full-time education or another apprenticeship at the time of starting.
- Not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level in a similar field.
- Hold GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above or successfully complete a functional skills test.
It is expected that candidates are dedicated to completing the apprenticeship and the associated qualifications.

The regional pay for this position is set at £29,500. Existing civil servants transferring laterally will retain their current salary, while those promoted may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or receive a 10% salary increase, whichever is greater.
Selection Process
The selection process will utilize Success Profiles to evaluate candidates based on their behaviours and experiences. This includes an application stage followed by a video interview for successful candidates, where they will present on a specified topic.
Security Clearance
Successful candidates must meet security requirements and undergo a criminal record check. Residency in the UK for a sufficient duration is necessary for meaningful checks to be conducted.
