Position Overview
The Dumfries & Galloway Council is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Social Work Assistant within the Justice Social Work sector. This position offers a competitive salary range of £29,000 - £32,000.
Available Positions:
- Permanent contract in the Stranraer/West of Region
- Fixed Term contract in the Stranraer/West of Region
- Fixed Term contract in the Dumfries/East of Region
Role Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be integral to our Early Interventions team, focusing on:
- Assisting social workers with their statutory responsibilities.
- Engaging with individuals under Community Payback Orders (CPO) to address their specific risks and needs.
- Managing cases and collaborating with various agencies to ensure comprehensive support.
- Leading initiatives such as Structured Deferred Sentences, Diversion from Prosecution, and Bail Supervision.
- Participating in court-related duties as required.
Essential Skills:
Effective communication is vital in this role, including:
- Maintaining contact with individuals on CPOs.
- Collaborating with colleagues and external partners.
- Demonstrating strong writing abilities for emails, letters, and court reports.
Candidates must exhibit initiative and the capacity to work independently while also being effective team players. A commitment to ongoing learning and adaptability to evolving responsibilities is essential.
Additional Requirements:
A valid driving license is mandatory for this position. However, alternative transport arrangements may be considered for candidates with disabilities that prevent them from holding a driving license.
This role is classified as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act. Candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to employment.
Applicants who have resided outside the UK in the past five years will need to provide a police record check from the relevant authorities in those countries if offered a position.
