The Virtual School is seeking to appoint a temporary maternity cover for a Personal Education Plan Facilitator. This dynamic and diverse role is crucial in supporting the educational planning for children across various social care settings, fostering their learning and development. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that every child has a comprehensive plan that highlights their strengths and needs as learners, addresses barriers to their progress, and promotes education as a vital protective factor.

You will collaborate with a dedicated and enthusiastic team across the Children and Families directorate to advocate for inclusive practices and provisions in educational settings. Your efforts will be directed towards ensuring that plans effectively contribute to improved educational outcomes for children under the Virtual School's care. You will work to accurately identify and document the learning needs of children, enabling schools, caregivers, social workers, and families to support their educational journey.

As a qualified educator, you will possess a deep understanding of the challenges faced by children and young people who have undergone various social care interventions, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health needs. Your ability to establish credibility with educational institutions, social services, and families will be essential in promoting inclusive practices.

You will serve as a passionate advocate for the rights of vulnerable children, recognizing their potential and striving to uphold high aspirations for their educational achievements and future opportunities. Your role will involve utilizing a variety of data and information to ensure that personal education plans effectively address children's strengths and needs, as well as contributing to the development and delivery of training and professional development for schools and services.

In this position, you will support the Virtual School and local authority in fulfilling statutory obligations related to various cohorts, drawing on evidence-based practices and interventions that empower children to reach their learning potential. You will have access to extensive training and professional development opportunities provided by Leeds City Council.

This role operates within a framework of high support and high expectations, with accountability to the Corporate Parenting Board and associated councils. You will uphold all commitments to children in care and care leavers, ensuring that all children are placed in educational settings that cater to their needs.

Job Purpose:

  • To assist the local authority and the Virtual School in ensuring that children in care have high-quality personal education plans (PEPs).
  • To ensure that effective PEPs contribute to the local authority's statutory functions in promoting educational attainment for children in care.
  • To demonstrate the progress of children in learning from the moment they enter care.
  • To collaborate with families, designated teachers, and support services to enhance educational outcomes for children in care.
  • To ensure that all children have robust plans that facilitate their educational engagement, regardless of their care plan outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure compliance with statutory duties regarding the educational attainment of children in care.
  • To work with designated teachers and support services to ensure quality PEPs for all children in care.
  • To gather comprehensive information about a child's educational history and needs at the point of entering care.
  • To collaborate with educational institutions and social workers to secure appropriate placements for children in care.
  • To assist in the completion of high-quality PEPs.
  • To advise on the effective use of funding to maximize educational progress.
  • To ensure that children in care have a voice in their educational planning.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and/or relevant educational qualifications.
  • Membership of professional bodies and evidence of ongoing professional development.

Essential Requirements:

  • Understanding of the Child Friendly City concept and the importance of children's voices.
  • Knowledge of legislation and best practices related to children in care.
  • Understanding the impact of early trauma on learning.
  • Experience in educational settings and developing personalized learning plans.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Ability to analyze data to create effective educational plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High sensitivity to the experiences of children in care.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Creative problem-solving skills to engage children and families.
  • Experience in interpreting and presenting data to inform educational planning.
  • Knowledge of effective strategies for supporting children in care.
