Position Overview

We are excited to present an exceptional opportunity for a proactive and innovative Clinical Scientist to become a vital part of our senior scientific leadership team at Synnovis Analytics. This role is integral to our Cytogenomics service, which is recognized for its extensive Prenatal and Reproductive Genomics offerings.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the operational leadership of a comprehensive Cytogenomics service, which is among the largest in the region, delivering rapid aneuploidy testing. The individual will act as a deputy to the operational lead, collaborating closely with colleagues in Fetal Medicine and Clinical Genetics.

The role requires the interpretation and authorization of intricate reports derived from various methodologies, including QF-PCR, microarray, karyotyping, chromosome breakage analysis, and FISH. Depending on their expertise, the postholder may also assist with whole genome sequencing and the analysis of embryos for preimplantation genetic testing (PGT).

In this position, the individual will oversee team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality genomic testing and contribute to the ongoing development of the service.

This role offers a flexible working arrangement, combining both onsite and remote work options.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Service Delivery:

  • Provide expert knowledge in the assignment, analysis, interpretation, reporting, and authorization of cytogenomic tests and results.
  • Advise scientists and clinicians on best practices, patient diagnosis, and prognosis, offering expert scientific counsel during multidisciplinary team meetings.

Research and Development:

  • Plan and implement strategic advancements, including the development of supporting business cases and grant proposals.
  • Engage in national and international conferences.

Operational Management:

  • Contribute to the planning and execution of a high-quality and efficient service.
  • Act as a deputy for the Operational Lead in their absence.
  • Assist in formulating and executing a clear operational strategy, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards, reporting timelines, and budgetary constraints.
  • Provide regular updates on the progress of delivering an accurate and efficient diagnostic service.
  • Support the Operational Lead in maintaining compliance with ISO 15189 guidelines and national best practice standards.
  • Implement cost improvement measures and enhance cost-effectiveness.
  • Oversee human resources management, including recruitment and performance evaluations of relevant staff.
  • Engage actively in quality management initiatives, both internal and external, and in training and education efforts in collaboration with key team members.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • BSc in a relevant biological science.
  • HCPC Clinical Scientist registration in Genetics.
  • FRCPath Part 1 or equivalent experience at the level described in this role.

Desirable:

  • Higher degree in Biological Science.
  • FRCPath Part 2.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of genetic abnormalities, including aneuploidy and chromosome rearrangements.
  • Experience with genetics LIMS/databases and genomics analytical software.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of cytogenomic technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of molecular aetiologies related to human genetic diseases.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in the field.
  • Experience in laboratory management and quality audits.
