Altus Partners is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Group Financial Controller to join our client, a leading retail brand backed by private equity investors.

This is a key strategic expansion hire, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and offering full ownership and autonomy to lead, develop, and enhance the Group Controls function.

The company is a market leader in the retail industry, with revenues of £240m and a strong EBITDA. The Group Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in executing the company's value creation plan and working towards an exit within the next 18 months to 2 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting directly to the CFO, providing key financial reporting information and related insights to drive the ongoing growth of the business.
  • Monthly reporting and presentation to private equity investors.
  • Leading a team of 22 team members with 5 direct reports, delivering ongoing support, mentoring, and development of leadership infrastructure.
  • Leadership and development of specific Payables, Receivables, Financial/Management Accounting, Tax, and Treasury Teams.
  • Leading the month-end process and consolidation of the group's 25 entities.
  • Overseeing and leading the Statutory Accounting and Year-End process of all entities.
  • Developing and implementing processes to enhance reporting cycles and management accounts.
  • Cash flow management and maintaining strong relationships with banks.
  • Ongoing utilization and development of the accounting ERP system, driving efficiency in internal processes.
  • Ensuring completion of direct and indirect tax requirements and deadlines.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Accountant (Audit background preferred but not required).
  • Relevant Financial Controller experience with a track record of developing teams and executing process improvement initiatives.
  • Commercial approach to Controllership.
  • Exposure to leading Treasury and Tax functions is desirable.
  • Private equity/multi-site experience is a nice to have but not a prerequisite.
  • Hybrid working is available with a requirement to be on-site 3 days a week.
